In 1963, William Golding, the author of the novel Lord of the Flies, said in an interview that although he was appalled by the evils of Nazism and the terce Reich, he still believed that everyone was capable of inhumanity. Goldings novel was written post-WW2, where the horrors of pucker regimes profoundly affected peoples views on the world. He saw Nazism as an evil political system, so horrifying that it could not be explained through reason alone. He therefore looked for an explanation in the nature of human beings themselves in their capacity for brutality and inhumanity when the boundaries of civilization become undone.
